Every move can be
stressful and challenging. However, if you had the misfortune to hire a rogue
moving company, your entire experience will be a complete nightmare. In recent
years, more and more moving companies appear practically overnight. Many of
them come with just a truck and a website and call themselves legitimate moving
companies. They are often the same companies that load things up and hold them
hostage in some location until their owners pay more money than what has been
originally agreed upon. It goes without saying that you should be careful in
choosing which company to hire. Here are some valuable tips that will ensure
you find the right movers in Spring TX and won’t be a victim of one of those fraudulent companies
proliferating now.
First of all, don’t expect
all moving companies to be the same. They are not. For one thing, the services
they offer can vary. They may also differ in how they deliver these services.
Some are just good at what they do while others are inefficient and unreliable.
Always do your research first before you even start obtaining quotes. The
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, American Moving & Storage
Association and Better Business Bureau sites are great sources of information.
Choose at least 3 movers and invite them to your home for an in-house estimate.
Meeting them in person will also allow you to feel if they’re to be trusted or
not. Plus, you’ll have an idea about the quality of services you will be
getting from them by seeing how they conduct their business.
Skip a moving company that
won’t show up at your home and would prefer to give estimates on the phone. A
moving company will have to see your things in person so they can size up how
much it will cost you, more so when you are doing an interstate move. After
which, they are going to give you a written estimate that they will have to
follow with up to 10% adjustments. As much as possible, be wary also of those
who will give you a quote online. This is often a setup for a potential fraud.
Never choose a particular company just because it offers the lowest quote. A
cheap quote is not always a great deal. Ask a lot of questions especially on
what is included in the quote and what’s not. Make sure also that everything is
in writing.
Finally, look out for
those classic warning signs. These often include a moving company asking for a
big deposit or even the whole payment upfront. In addition, a moving company
doesn’t provide all the necessary information on their website like their
contact details, insurance, etc. Also, they use a rental truck or they have a
truck but without the company logo in it. Be alert and always trust your
instinct. If something doesn’t feel right about a particular company, move on
and consider another one.
